San Diego Camera Crews On Location Makes Wishes Come True

San Diego camera crews on locationA woman’s wish for help for a struggling San Diego military family came true right before our eyes as part of our San Diego camera crews shooting for NBC’s “The Meredith Vieira Show.” It all unfolded during a two-day San Diego video shoot that began on the Mission Beach Boardwalk. That’s where our seven-person production team built Meredith’s pop-up wish booth, installed two cameras inside, and stationed our San Diego video crew outside to interview people who stopped by to make wishes. One woman, a local social worker, asked for assistance for a Marine family having trouble coping financially as a result of the dad’s PTSD diagnosis and forced retirement. The family fell $20.000 in debt as a result of traveling to visit the dad during his hospital recovery at a hospital 150 miles from their home. The morning after the beach shoot, our San Diego video production team swooped into action to shoot a background piece on the unsuspecting family — interviewing the mom, dad and three kids at their home for what they thought was a story about struggling military families in general. A few days later, the still-unsuspecting family was flown to New York to appear live with Vieira on the show, where our background piece was played and they were introduced. Afterward, Vieira surprised them with a check for $20.000 from Ball Park Franks, along with $10.000 in merchandise from Boxed.com. Needless to say, sometimes wishes do come true!

Los Angeles Video Production Camera Crew – Say Cheese!

Los Angeles video production camera crew –  we spent the day with a popular food truck and its owner to uncover the secrets behind its success. Say cheese — and help yourself to the Grilled Cheese Truck Story we shot for ABC’s daytime show, “The Chew.”

Inside the truck’s tiny kitchen, our LA video crew cooked up all kinds of interesting angles to shoot sandwich preparation. On the outside of the orange-and-yellow vehicle, we also figured out a few interesting “wheys” to capture its fun atmosphere. Hate to sound cheesy, but it’s another “grate” Solana production! #grilledcheesetruck #thechew #lavideoproduction #lacameracrew #losangelesvideo #losangelescameracrewlos angeles video production camera crew shoots grilled cheese truck

Comic Con San Diego Video Production

Comic Con  San Diego video production was another raging success for Solana Productions, Inc. We provided several video crews with equipment packages at the annual extravaganza — 2 of which handled wall-to-wall coverage of all the star-studded action at the Warner Bros. booth.

Comic Con San Diego Video Production - Warner Brothers  Comic Con San Diego Video Production

Our crews captured Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Benedict Cumberbatch and the other stars of “The Hobbit” signing autographs for a long line of fans. Another fan frenzy broke out right before our eyes when the new stars of “Game of Thrones” and its creator, George R.R. Martin, stopped by the booth. And our cameras were front and center for more fandemonium when heartthrob Ian Somerhalder arrived to promote “The Vampire Diaries” with co-star Nina Dobrev. Boxing champ Mike Tyson, promoting his new cartoon series, “Mike Tyson Mysteries,” also drew a huge crowd, as did the stars of the new tornado movie, “Into the Storm.” This was our 15th year covering Comic-Con, which we’ve seen grow from a local convention into a perennially sold-out pop culture event attended by 150,000 fans. In addition to Warner Bros., we’ve also handled coverage for Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Disney, VH-1, “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider.”  Our Comic Con San Diego Video Production crews have covered everything from red-carpet movie premieres at Comic-Con to promotional stunts on the downtown streets to exclusive interviews in hotel suites. #sdcc #comiccon #sandiegocomiccon

Video Production Crews – Jessica Alba Opens Up

Our San Diego video production crews captured actress Jessica Alba’s exclusive interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” in which she talked about being plagued by asthma, allergies and other frequent illnesses while growing up in a military family.

The interview was shot at the Grand Del Mar hotel, where Alba, a mother of two young daughters, hosted a charity baby shower event for Navy moms in the San Diego area. Her eco-friendly home and baby care company, The Honest Company, donated natural products and disposable diapers at the event. Our San Diego camera crew also videotaped the lavish festivities and interviews with Navy moms. Alba, whose father was in the Air Force, recalled enduring a sickly childhood that included several hospitalizations during the family’s frequent moves. However, the 33-year old star of “Fantastic Four,” “Sin City” and other films, expressed gratitude for the medical care she received. She also said she felt a special connection with military families who often struggle to make ends meet and to adapt during frequent moves. The story aired on “Entertainment Tonight” June 4.

News Camera Crew Shooting “Redrum” Episode

Shhhh! We’re sworn to secrecy about the details, but we can reveal that our news camera crew is busy working on an episode of “Redrum,” the popular Investigation Discovery series that follows police as they work backward piecing together clues in murder investigations.

For the Season 3 episode, we first interviewed the prosecutor, then moved on to the victim’s family, where a sordid tale of a son shooting his father unfolded. To achieve the show’s vivid HD look, we shot with the Sony F5 Cine Alta camera, which allows our crew to get very shallow depth of field in extremely tight settings.

“Redrum” airs Tuesday nights on Investigation Discovery, the only network devoted to compelling true stories of mystery and suspense. ID features an unprecedented slate of 11 all-new series and 22 returning hits for the 2014-15 upfront season and a new network tagline, Always Revealing. The network will produce more than 700 hours of original content designed to bring more emotional and intense stories of passion, greed, jealously, revenge, betrayal, heartbreak… and ultimately, justice. Many will involve our news camera crews and San Diego video production. #investigation discovery #sandiegocameracrew #sandiegovideoproduction

Live Event Video Production for Doodles Fundraiser

Our live event video production crew recently pitched in to help a great cause — the Desert AIDS Project in Palm Springs. Their annual Celebrity Doodles fundraiser needed a little help with publicity, so we gladly donated video equipment and crew to cover the event for TV’s “Entertainment Tonight.”

Next, we interviewed the many celebrities in attendance, including Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers and husband Alan Hamel, Lorna Luft and Susan Anton.  As the fun-filled gala unfolded, our crew shot the on-stage awards and entertainment, which featured a rousing performance by Taylor Dayne.  The event raised thousands of dollars for Desert AIDS Project and we were honored to help!

Los Angeles Corporate Video Production – Street Survival

Our Los Angeles corporate video production found out what happens when you mix 50 teen drivers with emergency road conditions? Our video crews found out recently while shooting Street Survival for Tire Rack. The nationwide course, co-sponsored by Michelin, lets teens experience a professional driving course created on the Fontana Speedway parking lot.

Michelin #1 Tire Rack

This Los Angeles video production involved a crew of three getting bounced around in cars, dodging careening and skidding vehicles and operating a QuadCopter overhead to capture aerial shots of the action.

Drone Shots / Los Angeles Video Production

Shooting handheld inside a car is generally not a problem. But it proved to be a bit challenging on this shoot. For the morning wake-up, as the instructors called it, teens in their own cars, accompanied by a coach, were told to stomp on the gas. As the car approached 60 mph the instructor would yell “BRAKE!” The panic stop taught students what to expect from their car and themselves before they hit a real freeway traffic jam.

The vast lot was divided into segments to test emergency stopping, swerving and spinout conditions. To add to the difficulty,  water trucks were on hand to douse the pavement and make driving conditions even more challenging. Several times throughout the day we rigged GoPro cameras to the cars to capture the interaction of the teen and coach.  We also recorded POV shots around the entire course by mounting a Go-Pro camera to the hood.

The course included a circle of cones that drivers would enter and drive around as fast as possible. This kind of extreme driving showed students another example of how cars handle under stress. It also demonstrated how quickly a camera operator can move when two tons of skidding car is headed his way.

A final event of the day introduced teens to a Michelin 18 wheeler. Event organizers parked several cars around the truck to demonstrate blind spots. Then the kids took turns sitting in the driver’s seat of the big rig. From that vantage point it was easy for them to see just how limited a view the driver has.

Through our interviews with the coaches, parents and teens, it was clear this Los Angeles corporate video production captured a course that provides valuable real world training. As the teens drove away, they were much better prepared with skills they’ll hopefully never have to use. #losangelesvideoproduction #losangelescamercrew #lavideoproduction #lacameracrew

From there, HP distributes the show to its employees all over the world. Solana Productions has been doing these kinds of San Diego video productions for more than 10 years with great success. Depending on the complexity of the staging, they can be set up in just a few hours. For this show, we installed all staging, lighting, projection, the TriCaster 8000 broadcast system and a sophisticated audio package.
